Adelaide E-Scooter Trial Extended Until October - Mearth-E-scooter

Adelaide electric scooter trial has been extended until the end of the month. The e-scooter sharing program started in February 2020, which allowed Ride and Neuron to operate in Adelaide CBD and North Adelaide.

Locals who want to participate in the e-scooter trial must be at least 18 years old. Driver’s license and learner’s permit are not required. Ride and Neuron scooters can only be used in footpaths and shared paths. Riders must comply with standard road traffic rules.

Adelaide city has specific areas where the electric scooter can be used, which includes restricted and “go slow” areas. Operators use geofencing to monitor their machines – riders must park within the trial or they will continue to be charged. Additional restricted areas of use are also applicable, including Rundle Mall, North Adelaide golf courses, Adelaide Botanical Garden, and Adelaide Zoo.

The Adelaide electric scooter trial first started with Beam last year until January 31, but the operator was unable to extend their permit. Expressions of interest were then opened to any e-scooter operator “with Neuron and Ride being the two successful operators selected to operate in the city from February” according to Garry Herdegen, the Adelaide City council’s acting director.
